Cornelia Davies (Nini Davies)

In 1980 I began my acupuncture training, graduating in 1983.  I have continued to learn, and most recently did extensive training in China in 2006 and 2007.

“My acupuncturist, Cornelia, has the skill to make carefully considered treatment decisions, while at the same time, deeply listening to my needs and anxieties as a person. I always feel that my health is in good hands in her consulting room.” Sally, Kingsbridge.

How I work

I work mainly as a traditional Chinese acupuncturist, which includes the use of moxibustion, cupping and TuiNa (Chinese massage). I underwent extensive further training in Beijing, China, over a three-month period during 2006. This intensive course involved my spending every morning in a traditional Chinese hospital, and every afternoon in the classroom learning about diagnosis from professors and experienced doctors of Chinese medicine. I feel that this experience has enormously upgraded my skills.

In 2007 I followed this up with another three-week study period in Chinese hospitals, in Nanjing.
I also practice Energy Medicine. This is a combination of various techniques I have been trained to use over the years. It revolves around the use of Holistic Healing and structural integration, and creative visualization to help deepen the client’s experience and awareness of the changes taking place in the body-mind-spirit. I also use creative visualization to help people feel more complete and less vulnerable in their energy bodies. Even if I am not using acupuncture, I may use Tuina (Chinese massage) or cupping where appropriate, to shift problems in the muscles and joints. Years of training and work in Chinese Medicine mean that during Holistic Healing sessions, I often use my fingers to stimulate acupuncture points.

When using counselling skills during sessions, my main consideration is to empower people to make their lives work for them. My training in Five Element Acupuncture, with its understanding that everyone has an individual way of relating to the world, particularly influences me.

Why I became a practitioner

In my early 20’s, I became severely physically ill and did what I’d always done in those situations: I turned to Western Medicine for a cure. Only this time, the best efforts of the doctors and nurses on my case didn’t help me get better. Things looked grim. I was 21 and desperately ill.
As a last resort I went to see a well known, old-style doctor-turned naturopath and herbalist, Dr Gordon Latto. This wonderful and skilled man saved my health. Improved, but not properly recovered, I sought out an acupuncturist and had my first experience of receiving genuinely holistic medicine. Then health took a consistent upturn, and so did my inner life: as a result of the acupuncture treatment I felt a better and nicer person, which I had no idea could result from treatment for apparently physical problems.

After a couple of years of improvement to my health I decided that I wanted to train in acupuncture and help people the way I had been helped. So, like many practitioners, I trained because I had experienced such positive results from acupuncture, myself.
Since those days, I’ve learned more about holistic methods of healing and have added other ways to help people

Other parts of my life

I am a keen musician, and I am particularly passionate about Renaissance music, which I sing whenever I get the chance. I love gardening and being in touch with plants, and I walk on the moors or by the sea frequently.
